Subhas was a promising student who excelled in his studies from a young age. He studied at the prestigious Presidency College in Kolkata and later moved to England for higher education. He graduated in philosophy from the University of Cambridge in 1919, where he was also involved in the political activities of the Indian student community. While at Cambridge, Bose prepared for the Indian Civil Service (ICS) examination, which he passed in 1920. Despite his success, his patriotic zeal led him to make a crucial decision: he gave up his promising career at the ICS to fight for India's independence. He secretly escaped from house arrest in Calcutta and reached Germany via Afghanistan, where he sought support from the Axis powers (Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy) to fight against British rule in India. In Germany, Bose received encouragement from Adolf Hitler and the Nazi leadership, although their relationship was fraught with complications. The Nazi regime provided him with the resources and means to reach Southeast Asia, where he eventually took over the leadership of the Indian National Army (INA). Formed in 1942 by exiled Indian leaders in Southeast Asia, the INA attempted to build a military force that would fight alongside Japan to overthrow British colonial rule in India. Under Bose's leadership, the INA grew in strength and began confronting British forces in the Southeast Asian theatre, particularly in Burma (now Myanmar). After Japan's defeat, Bose's army was disbanded and he fled Southeast Asia. On August 18, 1945, he died in a plane crash, reportedly while trying to flee to the Soviet Union. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain a subject of intense speculation and mystery. Several reports have cast doubt on the official account, leading to a variety of theories about his survival and possible escape.
